STRATEGY
- Based on the SWOT analysis and the results of the teacher competences create or revise your strategy. Make sure that the strategy covers different levels and keep it updated.
- Implement it!
ACTION PLAN
- Organisational Level and Team Level Create an action plan on two levels. One for the big picture and your entire context. In addition, request that teacher teams add digital competences to their annual action plan.
- Recruitment: When recruiting new teachers, ask them to complete the self-assessment test and to reflect on their digital competence. Add digital competence as one part of the pedagogical portfolio. This way you show that digital competence really matters.
- Personal development discussions: Make digital competence one of the topics at personal development discussions between team leaders and teachers. It is a good time to share success stories and to plan next steps for future goals.
ONGOING DEVELOPMENT
- Keep informed about the latest developments so that you can provide adequate support for teachers training and development.
- Arrange time and funding for attending courses, seminars and conferences (both for yourself and teachers).
GOOD NETWORKS
- Within different teams
- Different units within the university
- Nationally between universities
- Internationally
SOCIAL MEDIA PRESENCE AND MARKETING
Does the organization have its own communication and social media strategy? Consider these questions:
- How do we use social media channels in our unit?
- What channels do we use?
- Who is responsible? How often do we post?
To facilitate professional competence in your context :
- Benchmark how other relevant institutions are visible in social media and what kind of digital strategies they have.
- Create learning campaigns which include rich media such as posters and screens, round-tables, masterclass programs, on-line and printed materials.
DOCUMENTATION
- Collect information in one place. You could make a digital portfolio of institutional level: what have we been doing until now, what is the current situation, where do we want to go from here.
Last but not least….
STUDENT PERSPECTIVE
- Everything we do is for our students.
- Is enough support provided for students to boost their digital competence?
- Are the efforts made visible also to students? Is digital competence for example visible enough in learning outcomes of the courses?
- Evaluate the courses offered:
- Availability: Ensure that there are course structures that are flexible and allow blended and online learning options.
- Quality: Review courses using quality standards related to effective online learning.
- Accessibility: Conduct usability tests with existing on-line courses and spaces to check access and work flow.
- Guidelines: Create guidelines so that teachers design their spaces based on inclusive education which caters to students with special-needs.
